Using a Simulator to Understand Track Data

Race  drivers who want to improve their performance often need a system to gauge their progress in a  any given training program. Enter race simulators, a cutting-edge technology that the majority of all professional drivers and  teams use to assess their skills and enhance their performance.

Focus Driver Performance uses two Pro-Sim  simulators, which use the latest technology to improve drivers’ techniques, mental stimulation and familiarity. The simulator embraces a 4 meter wide by 2 meter tall 186 degree, domed projector screen which encompasses three 4K 240hz projectors all warped together to provide total Immersion.

Pro-Sim uses their own Evo pedal system which Is capable of replicating any brake pedal feel whilst requiring real life pressures, a steering wheel designed to suit single seaters and another to suit tin tops, H-Pattern, Sequential or paddle gear shifters, and an external LCD display to give drivers an experience that is closest to their typical driving situations.

At Focus, our simulators run on our very own In house track  and car models, which give us the greatest opportunity to stay ahead of the rest and achieve ultimate realism. Whilst also being able to collect and compare real life Motec data and overlay It to the sim. This enables us to work closer than ever with our drivers to ensure the gains we find on the simulator translate to real life.

Focus Driver Performance Simulators

We at FocusDriver Performance understand that track time is limited and expensive.Simulators allow  drivers in training to access tracks, albeit virtually and whether or not they’ve seen it before, to prepare for races.

Our simulator program packages includes using either a retired A1GP tub or ourPro-Sim GT Style simulator with custom settings to mimic any car. It comes with a dedicated training simulation room that blocks all external light and sound and on-hand coaching from a professional trainer through a live telecom unit.

All MoTeC data collected from the simulator’s telemetry recording software will be assessed in a post-session data and video analysis. The results will then be compared to benchmark times from professional drivers.

Using customised brake training software, the programs also allow  drivers to focus specifically on their braking skills to understand how much strength to use for a specific car/track.

The real-life dimensions and specifications of the simulators train race car drivers to drive and react realistically.

Expert Simulator Coaching

Apart from using live telemetry data, Focus Driver Performance’s simulator programs also employ benchmark data from professional drivers, allowing coaches to give drivers-in-training valuable input on their performance.

Simulators allow drivers to transition from  karts to  cars as well since these require different skills, tracks, and even fitness levels. In addition, the programs ensure that drivers improve in areas they need help with aided by technology-enabled and cost-effective sessions to attain competition-level performance.

Simulators help  drivers gauge their performance without going to the actual track. They can thus practice as much as they want and even get pointers from expert coaches to help them win.
